As one of the only female athletes that goes to ESP consistently for weightlifting; on my off season that is. I find the training extremely helpful and beneficial for my sport. Most kids that go to ESP are football players, some baseball and lacrosse, track, basketball, all scattered here and there. But I swim and play water polo. I’m a sophomore at Naperville North High School and I have played 2 years of varsity water polo on the starting line of the team. At the moment I am the leading scorer and my freshman year I broke the record for the most steals ever made in a season.
Practically no one has ever heard of water polo in the Mid-West . But it’s a very strenuous sport that requires a lot of energy to play, you have to constantly tread water, get around a defender, handling a ball with only one hand to catch, pass and shoot with, all while swimming up and down a pool at an all-out sprint. What ESP has done to my sport has been amazing. I’ve been able to hold off girls who are bigger than me as well as create scoring opportunities for myself by being explosive. My defenders never expect me to be as strong as I am, since I’m no big and tall, so when the time comes that I have to defend them, I can sink them easily.
What I love about going to ESP is the energy that’s always there. The trainers are always in a good mood and ready to work. If they see that you’re having a bad day, they won’t hesitate to talk to you- while working out of course. If you go to them with problems, they have your back. Even if they’re non-sport related. They encourage you to do your best and to reach for your goals because they want to see you get there!
As time progresses and I got to know some of the people that I’ve been working out with for a while now, and I see that they’ve all gotten stronger. They remind me every single time, every single lift, that I can get better and that the hard work that it takes to get better, is worth it. I’ve been with the ESP program for a while and it’s safe to say that this training has played a big part in my accomplishments. And it will continue to do so for the rest of my high school career! J
